When microblading, we advise each client to choose an eyebrow style that matches their face and eye shape. Every person is different and certain shapes look better on certain faces. The goal is for each facial feature to complement each other and not be overbearing. In this blog, I want to talk specifically about hooded eyes. You may already know that hooded eyes can be tricky when putting on makeup, but what about the brows? What’s the best eyebrow shape for hooded eyes?

What is a Hooded Eye?

First, let’s identify what a hooded eye is. An eye is considered hooded if you can barely see the skin on the eyelid. It’s slightly puffy and the crease of the eyelid is tucked up underneath the “hood.” This makes it a little more difficult when applying makeup since you would normally try to put emphasis in that area. Jennifer Lawrence, Selena Gomez, Blake Lively, Drew Barrymore, Taylor Swift, and several other famous actresses and singers have hooded eyes.

“An eye is considered hooded if you can barely see the skin on the eyelid.”

Hooded eyes tend to have naturally lower set brows due to the nature of the eyelids drooping down ever so slightly. This can cause the eyes to look more serious and closed off; not allowing your beautiful blues or greens or hazel eyes to shine through. The arch of the eyebrow is usually minimal. It looks more straightened and naturally lined rather than having a higher arch that creates a more dramatic brow. With procedures like microblading, you have the ability to completely change the shape of your brows.

Celebrity Examples

When looking at celebrities like the ones mentioned above, you’ll see that they all have different eyebrows that accentuate their eyes in the way that they please. For example, Jennifer Lawrence and Selena Gomez have very slightly arched brows (almost straight across) that gives them a sophisticated and more serious tone to their facial features. Taylor Swift, on the other hand, has a thinner brow with a higher arch. This gives more space under her eyes, allowing them to look a little brighter and more open. I’ll bet you’re going to be googling all kinds of celebrities now just to look at their brows. I found a great blog that has several celebrity brows to look at! Check it out! It’s surprising how many celebs don’t really have great brows. They could use a microblading specialist. 😉

Find Your Ideal Brow Shape

The truth is, hooded eyes can be accentuated however you please. With microblading, you can truly shape your brows however you like. If you desire a more sultry and sophisticated facial feature, I would suggest going the route that Jennifer Lawrence and Selena Gomez took with their brows; natural, a little on the thicker side, and a minimal arch. If you want to look more awake and bubbly like Taylor Swift, a higher arch will pull the hoods of your eyes up higher, allowing more room to play with eyeshadows on your eyelids, so that you can create looks that really make those eyes POP!
