Step 2: Custom Design and Color Selection
After our first chat, we’ll move to the even more fun stuff: design and color selection!
Your DFW lip blush artist will map your lips with a specialized pencil – creating the blueprint for your enhancement. Don’t worry! You’ll have the opportunity to approve this shape before we proceed with any pigment application.
Color selection is a key part of any successful lip blushing results. We’ll present a range of pigment options and may even create custom-blended shades to achieve your perfect color.
We’ll walk you through each step of the process – whether you’re looking for a subtle enhancement that adds just a hint of color or a more defined shade that mimics your favorite lipstick.
Step 3: The Application Process (Comfort is Key!)
With design approved and colors picked, it’s time for the actual lip blushing process to begin.
We start by thoroughly cleansing your lips to ensure they’re free from any oils, makeup, or other products that may interfere with the color’s uptake.
Your comfort is our TOP priority (second only to a genuine smile after!), so we apply a topical numbing cream that works for about 30 minutes before beginning the pigment application.
Using a state-of-the-art digital device, your artist will deposit pigment in tiny, pixelated dots throughout your lips, building color gradually for the most natural effect. This technique creates dimension rather than a solid block of color, ensuring your lips look naturally enhanced rather than tattooed.
Most of our clients describe the sensation of the application as mild discomfort rather than pain, similar to a light scratching feeling. During the entire 90-120 minute application process, we apply additional numbing as needed and check in regularly to ensure your comfort.
The Immediate Results and What to Expect
Right after your procedure, your lips will appear 30-50% darker and more vibrant than they will once fully healed. This bright color intensity is completely normal and will soften as your lips heal over the next few weeks.
Don’t be surprised if you experience some swelling for 24-48 hours following your appointment, along with a sensation of tightness or dryness. These are all normal responses and part of the healing process – but you can always call us if you are concerned!
Before you go, our artists will provide detailed aftercare instructions and products to ensure optimal healing and pigment retention. Following these is key if you want to get the most out of your lip blushing treatment – so no cheating!
How Long Does It Take To Heal?
The lip blushing healing process happens in stages over about 6 weeks – though it could be different for each person.
During the first 3-7 days, your lips will begin to gently exfoliate. They’ll naturally shed the outer layer of skin containing excess pigment. This could cause your lips to appear patchy or uneven temporarily, but don’t worry. It’s completely normal and not a reflection of your final result.
Many clients experience what we call the “disappearing phase” around the second week, where the color seems to fade significantly. Again – don’t panic! This is simply part of the healing process as the pigment settles deeper into the skin. Your color will return as it fully heals (and you follow your aftercare instructions!)
By week 6, what you see is very close to your final, healed result. This is when we schedule your included perfecting session to address any areas needing adjustment and ensure your lips look absolutely perfect.
